This research used case study method and qualitative approach. The participants in this study were undergraduate students from class A and B of 2020 in English Education study program at Universitas Negeri Makassar. The students were given a questionnaire using Google form. The results of the study showed that bilingual language is important in improving students’ academic writing. Based on the results of the questionnaire, students stated that there were 5 benefits of using bilingual languages related to academic writing. The first is to help students in learning English. Second, it makes easier for students to enlarge their vocabulary in academic writing. Third, it makes easier for students to understand the material given by the lecturer. The fourth is to help students in paraphrasing the passage that relates to the topic of their writing. This study employed a qualitative method with narrative approach. The participants of this study involved 5 EFL students of English department who are currently undertaken English education as their major. The researchers used interview in collecting data, and the data was transcribed, organized, and analyzed. The data collected from this study provide a clear understanding of the context and the influencing factors of language development. This research uses qualitative research. The data in this study were in the form of speech in a conversation related to diglossia in the everyday language of the people of Bone Village. The data source in this study was the people of Bone Village, Bajeng District, Gowa Regency. Data collection techniques in this study are 5. 1) Observing speech events that occur in the bone village community, 2) Imitating conversations heard in written language, 3) Determining speech that refers to diglossia, 4) Providing coding data for each data collection, 5) Classifying data related to diglossia according to language usage. The data analysis technique in this study used direct research. The research utilized mixed-method approach. questionnaire and interviews were used as the instruments to collect the data from the total of ten respondents. the findings revealed that the students have different language preferences for different context, with Indonesian being the more preferred language for doing activities such as watching TV/videos/DVDs, practicing sports, and religion. meanwhile, English and Indonesian were used equally when reading books. The result of the research also indicated that being bilingual had an advantage in academic studies, including better communication with people from different backgrounds. Being bilingual also helped the respondents in their English Studies, making it easier to understand English, communicate with international friends, and able to access information from various sources. Bilingualism occurs even though both parents are Indonesian, this happens because children are not only taught one language from the young age. This study discuss about what language do the students prefer to use and what are the role of mother tongue in students’ Bilingualism. The approach in this research is descriptive quantitative method. It aimed to find out the description of the students’ ability, their preference in using mother tongue and Bahasa Indonesia, also their obstacles and the role of mother tongue in speaking bilingual ( Mother Tongue and Bahasa Indonesia) at the students of Public Health in UIN Alauddin Makassar. Research instrument is used to obtain or collect data in order to solve problems in achieving the goals of the research study. The instruments are interview and Questionnaire. The result of the study note that the students frequently used Indonesian as the second language when they talk to the friends and lecturers. According to the result of interview, these participants explained that the role of their mother tongue is to communicate with family and relatives. It shows that all of them use their regional language as their mother tongue. It can facilitate them to communicate with each other in their daily life.
